Chris Birch is Year 6 Mentor and Head of Key Stage 2 at the newly opened Citizens School in Dubai. Chris has 15 years of teaching and middle-leadership experience, with 11 of those being in the United Arab Emirates. He previously worked at GEMS Wellington International School and JESS Dubai in Arabian Ranches.
Chris’ passion for STEAM and STEAM-based activities came in 2013, in his second year at Wellington International School where he inherited the role of F1 in Schools Coordinator and later for the Primary Schools version of the program in the UAE, Formula Ethara. In 2018 and 2019, whilst working at JESS Dubai, he led his teams to consecutive championship wins. Aside from success in this program, Chris is an advocate for the advancement of women in motorsport and breaking down gender stereotypes that exist around engineering-based industries.
Chris’ ongoing enthusiasm and commitment to the field of STEAM comes from the holistic and interdisciplinary nature of the combined areas. Meaningful and real-life learning comes from establishing links between disciplines and seeing how new skills can be adopted across the curriculum.
